Primary Election
The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.
Dates & Deadlines
- County Candidate Filing Begins - Monday, March 2
- County Candidate Filing Deadline - Friday, March 20
- First day to submit Absentee Ballot Request forms to the Auditor's Office - Tuesday, March 24
- Absentee Ballots ready to be mailed - Wednesday, May 13
- In-person voting starts in the Auditor's Office - Wednesday, May 13
- Voter Pre-Registration Deadline - Monday, May 18
- Last day to have an Absentee Ballot mailed - Monday, May 18
Extended Hours
Extended and Saturday hours are available for voter registration and absentee voting in the Worth County Auditor's Office. In addition to regular hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., extended office hours during the 2026 Primary Election season will be as follows:
- Friday, March 20 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Thursday, April 16 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Monday, May 18 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, May 29 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday, May 30 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, June 2 Election Day

- Democratic Candidates: 50 signatures
- Republican Candidates: 50 signatures
County Offices (Supervisor District 1 & 3)
- Democratic Candidates: 21 signatures
- Republican Candidates: 21 signatures
