City/School Election
School and City Elections are combined and held in November of odd-numbered years. A City election is used to elect the Mayor and Council Members and any other elected city officials. A School Election is an election to select School Board members within the district.
Dates & Deadlines
- Candidate Filing Begins - Monday, August 25
(Paperwork to be filed with your respective City Clerk or School Secretary)
- First Day to submit Absentee Ballot Requests Forms to the Auditor's Office - Tuesday, August 26
- Candidate Filing Deadline - Thursday, September 18
(Paperwork to be filed with your respective City Clerk or School Secretary)
- Candidate Withdrawal Deadline & Candidate Objection Deadline - Tuesday, September 23
- In-person voting starts - Wednesday, October 15
- Voter Pre-Registration Deadline and last day to have an Absentee Ballot mailed - Monday, October 20
- Last day to vote an absentee ballot - Monday, November 3
- Election Day - Tuesday, November 4
- Recount Request Deadline - Thursday, November 13
Extended hours in addition to regular hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., extended office hours will be as follows:
- Thursday, September 18 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, September 23 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, October 6 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, October 20 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, October 31 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, November 4 - Election Day Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Thursday, November 13 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Voter Registration
Pre-Registration deadline for voter registration closes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20. Persons wishing to participate in this election who register to vote after October 20 will be required to provide proof of identification (i.e. current and valid photo identification card with an expiration date), AND proof of residency in their voting precinct, when they go to the polls on election day, or when they request an absentee ballot in-person. Other provisions may also apply. Persons not registered to vote by October 20 should expect a longer processing time at the polls on Election Day.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee Ballots will be available beginning Wednesday, October 15, for mail and in-person voting. Download absentee ballot request form here.
- The Auditor's Office can begin accepting request forms on Tuesday, August 26.
- The last day an absentee ballot may be mailed to a voter for this election is Monday, October 20 until 5:00 p.m.
- In-person absentee voting in the office of the Worth County Auditor closes at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3.
All absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day to be considered on time to be counted.
City Candidates Signature Requirements: Minimum of 10
- Monday, August 25 – Thursday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m.
- Paperwork to be filed with your respective City Clerk
School Candidates Signature Requirements:
Northwood-Kensett-24 minimum
Central Springs-37 minimum
- Monday, August 25 – Thursday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m.
- Paperwork to be filed with your respective School Board Secretary
